I get all of that but all the way to the States for one 15k seems odd, granted it is a high profile one. The Josh Milton link may be part of the reason perhaps in some way linked to coaching.
Re: your comment on his schedule Jaggy, I think there are a few factors with Marcus to consider:
- He has a new baby at home and he probably wants to be efficient with his time away from home - He has spoken to media recently about his ranking expectations - short (top 300) and longer term (entering slams as of right). So I think his approach is quite measured in a way which is quite admirable, considering all of the post Wimbledon hype.
I am guessing he is saving himself for the run up to Wimbledon on the grass. I am sure he'll get some WCs for the challenger events at the very least which one would hope, would give him the opportunity to rise a bit quicker up the rankings.
All in all, my opinion he is heading for much better things. The potential and talent is there in abundance. It will happen.
That potential and talent has been there for a very long time without it really happening, high time Marcus made it happen !!!
Curious to see Marcus play this one, although as others as had it is tinged with a bit of wistfulness that he's frittered away his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from Wimbledon last year.
I do wonder if Marcus was there by invitation. The Vero Futures is actually called the (or part of the) "Mardy Fish Children's Foundation Tennis Championships". When Marcus played team tennis in the USA last year (in the same team as Neal Skupski), was there a Mardy Fish link somewhere ? Maybe I'm not remembering that one correctly ?
I just wonder if Marcus helps draw publicity for the tournament organisers
