Girls: Nike Junior International Nottingham (Week 1), hard - Grade 4 (Week 16)

Anna Loughlan, Olivia Elliott and Victoria Allen head the acceptances for the first week here. Main draw starts tomorrow and should be up soon at http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournament/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100038679

She was the fourth on the acceptance list, though, as David implied. She's gone up in the rankings because she made the final in Malta.

Nice to see the big draws for both girls and boys

Good to see Kylie Bilchev in the draw. Will be interested to see how she fares.

Although I would love to see Kylie and Amelia progress in both the long and short term, they are both very strong players in their age group nationally. I would hesitate to get too stary and personally follow a more conservative use of metaphors only approaching the cosmic when British juniors are impacting the upper age group internationally.

Well, both Kylie and Millie had no problem today, and many other of our younger players picked up good wins, and points, too.

A few surprises with Vic Allen, Olivia Elliott, Morgan Cross and Anna Bowtell all losing.
Nice to see Katherine Barnes playing and winning .
Destined Martins and Erin Richardson may be ones to outperform their seedings.

Yes, steven might need a new 'top Kat' in a few years time so Katherine Barnes is very welcome (I think these are her first points too).

I'll be interested to see how Sonay Kartal (born 2001) does - she plays very few tournaments but plays well.

I don't think Tiegan beating Morgan was a huge surprise - they're very similar, and it went to 6-4 in the third last time between them, and Tiegan thrashed her the time before that.

Overall, nice to see so many 2001 and younger getting points.

Destinee and Erin failed to provide paulisi's upset but that's two third set T-Bs, now, that Katharine Barnes has successfully negotiated - well done that qualifier !

Nice run by young Millie.

And pleased for Sonay - she'll get her ranking back, good and proper, as deserved.

And only two foreign lasses

Amelia did well to take the No1 seed to 3 sets

Millie seems to now be advancing in ITFs at a rate. After her recent doubles exploits these will be her most singles points, her run ended by what does indeed look a very good effort against the top seed by the 13 yo. Another to watch.

I think Sonay had some sort of minor injury problem too - after taking the first set off Anna Loughlan, she then tailed off badly and had to withdraw after just one set in the doubles.

But in the dubs, Morgan + Vicki take on Erika and partner, whilst in the other half, Anna L and Millie D-S take on the Latvian pair.

Nice to see the points being shared out....
