Week 16 - ATP 1000 - Monte-Carlo (clay)

Good to get the win.

Andy probably pretty rusty and the slow start and 8 DFs ( 4 in his first 2 service games ) probably indicative of that. He may in particular have not been doing much serving.

Hope that helps him bed in again and that the shoulder is fine.

From the Beeb's rolling sports news page:

Murray happy to negotiate opening hurdle

Andy Murray survives some technical faults with the headset to give his response to victory over Gilles Muller, his first ATP Tour match since sustaining that elbow injury in March.

Murray was 2-0 and 4-2 down in the first set and said: "I haven't been in the best rhythm on serve because I only started serving at full speed four or five days ago. I knew it would take a bit of time but I wasn't expecting to start serving like that.It was a tricky first match, he is not a typical clay court player."

Asked about his next challenge against world number 24 Albert Ramos-Vinolas, another left-hander, Murray added: "He's always a tough guy, I've practised with him quite a bit and he competes hard and doesn't give anything away."

Kyle looked a nervous wreck in the 1st set and got bagelled. Early in the 2nd, at 1-1, he was broken from 40-0 up. He seemed to get angry and that has loosened him up and finally we are seeming him hit the ball.

Now leads 3-2* in the 2nd.

If Jamie & Bruno get past Haas & Huey, they'll face, not the eighth seeds, JJR & Tecau, whom I imagine they'd be expecting to meet in the QF, but the Franco-Monégasque wild cards, Hugo Nys & Romain Arneodo (CR 1032), who despatched JJR & Tecau in straight sets a short while ago!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we officially have a match on our hands as Kyle takes the 2nd set 7-5.

We are into a decider.

Some great play from Kyle, despite the loss.

Well if we ignore the 1st set, that is the best I have seen Kyle play this season. He seemed to loosen off the shackles when he went behind in the 2nd and decided to just let rip. And boy did it work.

If he gets some decent draws in this clay court season, we will hopefully see some results.

Hopefully that performance after the first set will give Kyle confidence to let rip some more and he could do some real damage in this clay season.

For anybody who didn't see the match, there is a good 20 minute highlights package here.

If I were you, I'd skip the first 8 minutes wink

Andy first up, at 11am local, 10 am BST

Not a bad programme for the main court spectators :

Murray vs Ramos-Vinolas
Wawrinka vs Cuevas
Nadal vs Sascha Zverev
Djokovic vs Carreno Busta
