I guess that it is the consensus, but I'm not certain that Mr Edmunds will win.

At 4-1, 40-0 I was feeling quite smug.

I was never in doubt Kyle would win. OK, I saw the final result before any of the details as to how it was arrived at.

L32:  Kyle Edmund WR 45 vs (4) Rafael Nadal (ESP) WR 7 (CH = 1 in August 2008)

L32:  (1) Andy Murray WR 1 vs Gilles Müller (LUX) WR 28 (CH = 27 in February)

The head-to-head is 4-0 in Andy's favour, with the most recent encounter being a straight sets win in the last 16 of the Canadian Masters in 2015.  They have never met on clay.

Kyle's match against Rafa will be their first encounter.

Djokovic survives a scare. Gilles Simon served for the match at *5-4 in the 3rd but couldn't convert. Then, serving at *5-6 30-40 (ie MP Djokovic) Simon breaks a string in the middle of the rally. That's tough.

Andy could have started better, broken in the first game and 4 DFs in his first two service games.

1-2*

First set to Andy 7-5.

Since dropping his opening service game didn't stop him winning that set might as well start the second set similarly.

7-5 0-1*

Not World Number 1 for nothing. From set point down at 3-5, Andy takes the first set 7-5

Good to get the win.

Andy probably pretty rusty and the slow start and 8 DFs ( 4 in his first 2 service games ) probably indicative of that. He may in particular have not been doing much serving.

Hope that helps him bed in again and that the shoulder is fine.

Kyle, observing how Andy goes about business, gets broken first game.

Oh dear, 0-3. The last game was hard fought though. I only hope there are no bread products today.

Kyle being demolished thus far, taking only 10 points en route to a 0-5* deficit.
