Week 16 - ATP 1000 - Monte-Carlo (clay)

L64: Kyle Edmund WR 47 v Dan Evans WR 44

Say no more.  Except that the winner gets Nadal disbelief

Edit: just amending the week number.

Edit by Bob

As I was copying and pasting the title, I said to myself, "don't forget to amend the week number".  Still I didn't do it no

Thanks SC.

Kyle gets to play Nadal. And Evo gets to go to the beach.

L64:  (1) Andy Murray WR 1 vs BYE

Gilles Müller or Tommy Robredo (PR) in the last 32.

Not the best draw for Evo on clay!!

So 10 points for Kyle, 0 for Evo and whatever Andy can muster is the net situation here.

At least Dan and Kyle will earn some £ here. Can't see either doing anything in the masters series and French open.

Well whaddya know....

Defo the wrong surface for Dan to face Kyle on.

Kyle has the ability on clay to certainly achieve some success in the clay season, the issue may be him coming into it with limited wins on hard and possibly a bit down on confidence, and he wasn't at his best in the Davis Cup. A win or two would probably help greatly.

Cheers Evo for I imagine one Kyle win here anyway, but could have done without Rafa in R2. Then again if he can compete well it would probably help him going forward.

Actually, they are both guaranteed 10 points for being in the MD.  The winner gets 45 points for reaching R2.

I guess that it is the consensus, but I'm not certain that Mr Edmunds will win.

Neither am I. It would appear to be highly likely that Kyle will get the win, but I would give Dan a puncher's chance if he plays well and Kyle is not at his best. I suppose at least this way we are guaranteed one into the last 32, which given Dan's aversion to clay and Kyle's recent form might not be the worst draw.

That's right - Kyle has 20 points coming off so I think he'll be 4 points ahead of Dan (933+45+20 = 958 to 944+10 = 954) if he wins.

Just realised that both Brits who played MC last year went out to Nadal - Aljaz in R2 and Andy in the semis.

L32:  (3) Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares (BRA) CR 17 (8+9) vs BYE

The top seeds are John Peers & Henri Kontinen, in whose half Jamie & Bruno are drawn, & the second PHH & Mahut.
