Straightforward for Finn and a nice win for George, but a beatdown for Esther. Eliz was leading in a tight match when play ended

(3) Finn Bass d. (Q) Andras Necz (HUN) 6-2 6-1

R2

George Loffhagen v (6) Leonid Sheyngezikht (BUL)
Adrian Andreev (BUL) v (3) Finn Bass

Girls R1 (L32)

Andreea Velcea (ROU) d. Esther Adeshina 6-0 6-3
Eliz Maloney leads (Q) Victoria Mikhaylova (RUS) 7-5 4-5

R2

Eliz Maloney or (Q) Victoria Mikhaylova (RUS) v (2) Mihaela Lorena Marculescu (ROU)

Why is play being suspended? This happened yesterday too.
Are they putting on matches to late or not updating scores?

Eliz ended up winning her R1 match, the Russian qualifier taking one set from her in a tiebreak, however, she pulled through in the end winning 7-5 6-7(7) 6-2.

R2:

Eliz Maloney d. (2) Mihaela Lorena Marculescu (ROU) 4-6 6-1 6-2.

R3:

Eliz Maloney vs. (6) Ania Hertel (POL) ...this will take place tomorrow, OOP tbc.

Gemma Heath beat Ania Hertel in the Benicarlo G2 last month in straight sets.

That's two touch matches there. Hope she's feeling fine for tomorrow. Cracking win in the 2nd round.

Very good from Eliz, into the QF. She has really pushed on of late and has been backing up her February Moldovan G2 title. Another 2000 born to be certainly keeping an eye on along with Fran and Ali.

Fran loses first round this week and we still have 3 girls still involved at QF or better in 3 different G2s, indeed 3 different clay G2s

A super day here with all 3 progressing. Marculescu was also one of the players Eliz scalped on the way to winning the Moldova G2 earlier this year.

Boys R2

George Loffhagen d. (6) Leonid Sheyngezikht (BUL) 6-3 6-3
(3) Finn Bass d. Adrian Andreev (BUL) 6-7(5) 6-4 6-1

QF

Gabi Adrian Boitan (ROU) v George Loffhagen
(Q) Bogdan Pavel (ROU) v (3) Finn Bass

Girls QF

(6) Ania Hertel (POL) v Eliz Maloney

Great to see Eliz push on so strongly recently. I still can't get out of my mind that as a 15 year old she had the equivalent rank of an average top 20 college player at the point at which they finished juniors and started playing college tennis.

 Is this junior ITF rank?

Eliz has been in the top 3 juniors for her age group for a few years now.

Eliz always gets my vote because she's one of those students who got a nice haul of A* s in her GCSEs, and is at sixth form, and seemingly doing very well, AND representing GB at the Junior Fed Cup, and playing tournaments, etc. etc.

A disappointing loss for Finn this morning but George goes marching on, reaching his second G2 semi this year, but faces a tough task against the top seed, who has been ranked as high as 24

Boys QF

George Loffhagen d. Gabi Adrian Boitan (ROU) 7-5 6-3
(Q) Bogdan Pavel (ROU) d. (3) Finn Bass 6-4 4-6 7-6(5)

SF

(1) Nikita Mashtakov (UKR) v George Loffhagen

George is the last Brit standing here

Girls QF

(6) Ania Hertel (POL) d. Eliz Maloney 2-6 6-3 6-2

Shame for Eliz, started well.

Looks like Eliz has plenty of options but when I last had a look at the overall standard of student athletes by their junior ITF rank in the top 20, about 18 months to 2 years ago it fell at about the same rank as Eliz at the time.

I'll see if I can find the post. Things may have changed a bit since with the likes of Emily Appleton going but at the time Carole Zhao with a junior ITF High of 19 was the standout.
