They could up the prize instead of giving the top juniors a free pass in a concession to the general crap standard of the level of players, the reason they cite for skipping it. And when the top junior plays are motivated to play it, the standard of the tournament goes up. At the moment the summer national championship is an irrelevance and doesn't measure who the best junior British players are. Which for me is a sad state of affairs for a national junior competition. I say provide a greater incentive.
For the oldest age tier, offering MDWC for some of the ATP or WTA grass season events would soon wake people up. LTA runs all those events, so it doesn't have to be about Wimby. But calibrate their wildcard granting culture to whatever works best and would make this tournament prize WC or WC's package attractive. I think having a national championship that the older leading juniors treat with disdain doesn't send the right message. The message it gives is that these players are bigger than the lame British tennis scene. And the LTA is complicit in this state of affairs.
From Tennis Forum the initial main draw entry list had all the top 107 plus Tomljanovic with a special ( protected ) ranking.
Serena's pregnancy finally confirmed lets in WR 108 Cepede Royg.
Kvitova ( that awful attack ) and King ( very recent ankle surgery ) as of today remained on the list.
The first two alts in line are Rybarikova with a SR and then Allertova WR 109. I haven't seen a full alts list but assume Heather at WR 113 is currently 6th in line.
I'd suggest playing qualies might do her some good as a way to find form and confidence. But i don't even believe it myself. But in theory, for someone in her position and form, coming through qualies and banking some wins would have a positive effect. I don't fancy her to do anything in the MD if she is put straight in it as things stand.
But things can be looking different by then. Having beaten up the Romanians on clay in their backyard, her spirirts and form might be lifted coming into the French.

Naomi, probably seeded, and Tara, will be in qualies.
Heather was overtaken by a few more, is currently ranked 113, and will probably be in quailifying also, but would just make the main draw with 5 withdrawals.
Jo's seeding is all to play for in the earlier big clay events.
When are the ranking cut off dates for MD and qualies? Are Laura and Amanda definitely not going to make it?
