This tournament takes place as usual in Easter week, with Fran Jones top seeded in the girls event, taking on the girl who stopped Emma Raducanu's unbeaten start to the year, en route to the title in Copenhagen. Barnaby Smith and Anton Matusevich are highly seeded in the boys event. One of the courts appears to be streamed ( http://www.ctfirenze.it/citta-di-firenze/edizione-2017/ - click on 'live') but no Brits are scheduled on it tomorrow
Clara is a fairly tough 1st round draw for Fran, she beat everyone else up in Copenhagen, Emma has a 17 yr old serial G4 winner but generally doesn't run deep at G2. Could be an interesting day for both. Almost all Anton's potential opponents are 99ers or 00 already turned 17.
Harry and Fran play tomorrow. As well as limited streaming live scores (games only) are available via the live button on the above link. Fran is first on the streamed court (9am BST)
Great win for Emma still hard to gauge her level, obviously it will play out over the summer. I see Guerrero Alvarez who took Emma out in the first GRIP grade 2 a couple of weeks ago has since got to 2 G1 finals, winning one.
Also gives a perspective as to where emma sits, she was the only player to take Clara to three sets winning the first. Good to see they are in separate halves of the draw
It didn't get any better today on the doubles court, with all British interest ending. Tomorrow Emile is scheduled first and Barnaby fourth on the streamed court
Boys R2
(Q) Henry von der Schulenburg (SUI) v (5) Anton Matusevich
(6) Francesco Forti (ITA) v Emile Hudd
Alexandros Skorilas (GRE) v (2) Barnaby Smith
Traversi qualified for the last G1 in Croatia (which I think is her first G1) and took Emily Appleton to three sets in the first round, that said it took her three sets to win her first round match here against a much lower ranked opponent.
Difficult to know what to expect as a couple of inches of growth and a technically skilled but underpowered youngster suddenly becomes a real force.
One would of course expect her to be very strong cross court but not so hot down the line.
