That's Katies second best ever points haul.
Only bettered by her 20 points at 2015 Wimbledon qualies, and 2016 Miami qualies.
One more win would be her best!
Katie will be playing third seed 17-yo Sofya Zhuk (RUS).
Zhuk has never faced a Brit before in pro circuit, however, she has came across a few in the junior circuit, beating Maia Lumsden, Isabelle Wallace and still junior Ali Collins, she was as high as JWR 4, won junior Wimbledon in 2015. No relevance just some Brit competition history with the Russian.
Katie and Shelby are playing now against Mexican/American duo seed #4. Early break for Katie and Shelby, *1-0, more scores to follow shortly ...
I had total faith in Katie's capacity to come back from her second set blip. As a junior she was in the habit of loosing the first set and then getting boken in the second before putting on the afterburners and winning in three. A really promising quality.
I also see her serve as a significant weapon in isolation, but in her case backed by a high quality all round game, I know as with Kyle, mobility has been questioned but feel that will be answered in the same way over time.
Katie just needs to stay healthy which I think is the difference between her and her peers at the top of the junior game who have pushed on more quickly Kayla Day, Sofia Kenin, Blinkova etc.... Sofya Zhuk will be a good test of that theory.
