Well done Amanda! I've always been particularly drawn to her for whatever reason.

I think there's a lot to admire with her gradual improvement and perseverance.

Who knows how the VCR will play, given current events back home for her, which can't be easy.
Whatever, Mandy overturnd an unfavourable H2H in for a great win, and will need to do so again for another.

QR1: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) 258 defeated Jil TEICHMANN (SUI) [q16] 211 7-5 6-2

FQR: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) 258 v. Veronica CEPEDE ROYG (PAR) 131 (CH 111, Oct. 2016)
> H2H 0-1
> 2013 Campinas, Brazil - ITF $25K - AC[7], VCR[2] - Clay - QF - Cepede Royg by 6-4 7-5

Well done Mandy. 13 points is a decent haul from one match and the win fully justifies her taking a bit of a gamble and entering here. Good luck in next round, and hopefully she has entered some of the European WTA qualifies.

Oh, so this is where Mandy has resurfaced... I wondered where she was going to play next, as she is listed in no forthcoming ITF tournaments. But I'm really delighted to see her here and even more delighted to see her win. Already more points than reaching the QF of a 25k

And I agree with you tharris... for whatever reason I have too. Maybe it is as the wolf says... also because of all the Brits she has pursued her lone furrow on clay, but every time you see her play, with a bouncy cheerfulness too. It is great to see her finally crack the top 300 so clearly now and move on up to 254 in the live rankings... not yet within the top 250. I don't know what her current chances are of reaching the French Open qualies, the cut off for which I think is soon, but would be just reward if she could get there.

Almost no chance - the women's qualies draw is smaller than the men's qualies draw at RG, so the cut tends to be around 200 rather than 250. Lovely to see her taking a chance on playing WTA qualies and it coming off though

Hmm that is a pity but thought it was probably going to be unlikely remembering that you'd posted earlier on this.. Still as Sim says, hope Mandy can go on to play some of the European clay WTA qualies too. It's a pity that the Roland Garros cut off happens before the clay season has really started, considering that it is a good couple of months long...

She's playing WR 131 next, so I don't fancy her chances. Qudos to her though, for doing this, and I wish her the best of luck.

Jo may well withdraw, considering everything else, but for now...

R64: Johanna KONTA (GBR) [2] 7 v. Bye

Pretty tough section, with Day, Puig, Kasatkina, and Siniakova - who beat Jo in Shenzhen, all potential opponents

She may well withdraw but that could mean at least 3 weeks off (is she down for Stuttgart) so she might want to capiltalize on momentum. I don't think any of us would begrudge her some downtime though after this win!
