Big fan of green clay as a playing surface (and Charlston as a city), is this the most lucrative event on this surface? I am not aware of an equivalently lucrative men's event on the ATP tour.
Only Mandy's fourth ever shot at WTA qualies; never previously won a match, once at Eastbourne, twice at Wimbledon. Hopefully green clay will suit her better than green grass.
Very notable difference in her serving stats this year. Last year she was regularly serving 85-95% of first serves in, and maybe only hitting one or two second serves in a whole match. Today, and several times in Brazil, just above 50% first serves in, witha whopping 6 DFs. I'm not sure she served 6 DFs in the whole of 2016.
Suggests to me that she is trying to get a lot more oomph on the serve; and may be a cause for celebration rather than concern.
This result should see her improve her CH to inside the top 250.
