Yep agreed totally unfair to write off teenagers for being a pain in the rse, give them a tough time to facilitate their education but the space to prosper. These guys who have been hot housed since the age of 4, are under imense pressure, as Liam would testify.
I can understand a bit of a melt down in the face of some Stockport charm. Still lova lova Stropalova in the long term he will be an asset to the game even medium term he is that good!
Stropovalov put more effort into that ball he blasted at the Umpire than he did with that handshake. I fancy Liam to beat Victor as well funnily enough.
I saw a lot of Shapolvalov's victory over Lloyd last week and his most potent weapon was the slidy lefty serve on the ad side into Lloyd's backhand. Lloyd never really did come up with an answer for it. I also wondered if with Liam being a lefty himself, he may be able to cope much better and minimize the effectiveness of that weapon. So I was also hopeful of a win, but in truth still had the Canadian as favourite.
Really pleased for Liam because whatever else you can say about him, he never stops working.
And now he gets an OAP clay court specialist in the next round so that should be no problem.
Great points well made there Bob in the analysis. Liam's game is suited to handling Dennis more than Lloyds which is a shame because Lloyd played really well that match and could have gone on to win the title last week I thought.
Liam about to start against the King of Quito. There are no other seeds left in the top half so a win tonight could be massive as he ll be back in the top 300 with a great chance of pushing on further.
Yes, a real opportunity to get some serious points on the board as he seeks to rebuild his ranking. I'd give him a decent shot against VEB if he can play the way he did against Shapovolov.
Perhaps worth noting that Adrián Menéndez-Maceiras, who put out Lloyd Glasspool in three sets in qualies, is now in the SFs, having vanquished Escobedo (2) and Gabashvili (7) along the way.
