I can't say I was particularly confident, there seems to be something about being a "lucky looser" and a it's a freebie nobody expects me to win so let's go for it approach to the main draw.
They barely shook hands at the net and there seemed to be a bit of a row going on immediately afterwards. Did anybody catch that ? But very well done Liam anyway.
Shapovalov said something to him in the first set, about him being an LL i think. Then at the end Liam did over react a bit shouting come on at the top of his voice three times, it was quite funny really. Shapovalov didn't like it, let's just leave it at that!!
To be fair, Liam returned very well there especially. Shapovalov nowhere near his best houh
Great win for Liam, I certainly didn't see that coming!
"Stropovalov" has won 17 of his last 22 matches, but while he's 15-2 v the rest of the world over that period, he's 2-3 v Brits (beat Ed & Lloyd, lost to Evo, Kyle & Liam)

Liam is a pretty placid guy but I don't think he is a fan of gamesmanship, but understands it well and finds it really.... er .. motivating, try it and it's likely to backfire.

I think we should cut Shapovalov some slack, I remember how difficult I found it to control my temper at that age, and I'm pretty chilled. Zverev jr seems to have similar issues, so I just think the combination of teenage hormones and being an elite athlete is a difficult one to master.
