Oh my word. Hev and Evo lost at virtually the same moment. Thought Aljaz might sneak that set, but no, and he's down a break in the second now.
Come On!!
Very surprised by Evo there, thought that would be a sure thing. I have to imagine that for Aljaz playing his 8th match in as many days finally caught up with him and he ran out of gas.
Watching Evo's match, there were memories of his Challenger final against Kyle last year when he basically stood and watched a string of booming forehands flying past him. Escobedo just went for it on the forehand side and hit some massive winners. Evo had his chances though.
Well I wonder if this was a first. Watching Haas v Vesely and at 3-3 in the decider, the match is interrupted as an Iguana appears on the court. Despite several attempts to shoo it away, it seemed determined to sit on top of the scoreboard and watch the match.
The umpire tried to persuade Vesely to continue. Vesely, who would have been standing in front of the scoreboard to receive serve, was very reluctant. While this discussion was going on, Haas took out his mobile phone and snapped a selfie with the Iguana. Guessing that will be on Twitter or Facebook later.
Good luck indeed to him! And also to Kevin Anderson, trying to make his way back.
And yes, BiS, prompted by your post, I checked, and Tommy Haas and his iguana are indeed on Twitter (though not yet from his hand). Rather made for it, actually ... a very large and photogenic (well, sort of) iguana doesn't appear every day on top of a scoreboard.
On another note, not that surprising with Mr Evans - Escobedo hits very hard and very flat, and is rising fast.
And it was all going so well. Kyle served for the match at *5-3 in the 2nd set, played his first poor service game and then Donaldson really upped his game. Kyle lost the breaker and we are into a 3rd set.
Donaldson wins the second set 7-6(4). Just tuned in, but Donaldson's backhand dtl was very impressive. Jared is definitely my favourite to watch of the young Americans. Kyle will be disappointed with a couple of missed forehands in the tie-break though.
