L128:  Qualifier vs Kyle Edmund WR 45 (CH = 40 last October)

L128:  Qualifier vs Dan Evans WR 43 (CH = 41 at the start of this month)

Lucky boys! wink  Unfortunately, Mischa Zverev (28) lies in wait in the next round for Kyle, if he wins, & Verdasco (25) for Dan if he wins his first-round match.  The top seed is Stan the Man, while Nishikori is second, Roger the Lodger is seeded fourth & Rafa fifth.

Whilst Zverev and Verdasco would both be tough R2 opponents (if they get through!) it could have been worse. If they'd both been drawn down a couple of slots it would've been Raonic for Kyle and Nishikori for Evo.

Fingers crossed our boys can make it through and give the seeds a decent run for their money.

I agree with Jester. Surely anyone lower than the 16th seed ( = Alex Zerev Wr 20) is a good draw for R2! unless you have someone on a hot run of form. So both Brits appear to have a pretty good draw.

Yep, given they can't avoid a seed if they get through to R2 ...

Not at ATP level but in the Rome 2 Challenger last year Aljaz beat Federico 6-0 4-6 6-2.

For Evans and Edmund, this is not so much about the points as both are top 50 now, but more the money, so they can sustain themselves

For reaching round 2 of a masters, it is 25 points and $22k

If you won 3 lowest level challengers in 3 weeks, you would get 240 points and $21k (at 7k for winning 1).

What a ludicrous system.

I would rather they had been the other way round, but lets not be counting chickens and all that
