Up next, the phenom.
SF: Gabriella TAYLOR (GBR) 363 v. Destanee AIAVA (AUS) [4] 210 (=CH, still only 16 yo)

* Junior result
Gabby is having a great run down under which is nice to see, also quite impressive as to how highly motivated she is after being so ill in the summer.
It was a great shame that she got ill at Wimbledon. Doing well in the Wimbledon junior tournament was obviously a major target for her, it is the type of aspiration you would hope any child growing up keen on Tennis would have, particularly with the road to Wimbledon concept for the juniors which I see as a very positive initiative.
I will not forget the tears of frustration she shed walking away from loosing in qualifying (that may have been 2015? So perhaps already forgetting! the detail) and then not to have had the opportunity to compete in the later stages of the junior tournament when in such good form must be a bit of a running sore. Excellent motivation for putting one of the worlds super elite juniors (playing up 4 age cohorts featuring in the top 20 players not yet 20) in her place. I wish her well!

Nope. That was about it. Aiava lost 6 points in total on serve, and won 13 points in a row at one point. Still a good week for Gabbi, but that is a rather sobering result.

Destanee reputation is not without foundation. I know she has been highlighted by posters in threads elsewhere on the board and this performance should not have been too much of a surprise.
Featuring in the top 20 by rank not yet 20 as a 16 year old, and rising!!! is amazing only really Cici Bellis compares in terms of precociousness. Obviously a fairly sobering spanking and it just puts into perspective how good some of the young players out there are compared to what is a pretty strong cohort of British girls with decent junior ranks. In Katie Swans case very decent, and indeed she still sits solidly in her own cohort of top players by age. But wow!!!
All that said great week for Gaby, hopefully she can get deep into a few more 25k's fortunately I can't see Destanee being around at this level for long!
