And he has Ruben Bemelmans. These 2nd week Challengers are tough. I would be interested to know whether when one loses to someone like a Shapovalov or FAA, there's at least the feeling that well, they're likely to be at the very top in a few years' time, so there's at least some fun in playing them. Or whether it's just really frustrating.
I have a feeling (but might be wrong) that for the women, challenger-equivalent ITFs offer extra points during the second week of a major 2-weeker. Actually it might be the 125K events but I'm sure it's something. Maybe it's extra cash rather than points but something in the back of my brain is telling me there are extra points available. Is it the same on the men's side? If I'm wrong about the women and there's nothing for the men either, then there should be!!
I don't normally believe in blaming draws for players falling short but Eds Canadian trip has resulted in a 100placed ranking drop by drawing 2 players Im certain will be top 100 by end of 2018 or sooner possibly even top50.
That said he was fairly fortunate with being a lucky loser last year and having a fairly kind draw so maybe swings and roundabouts I guess.
Don't know quite what happened - it was at the far end of the court - and the coverage stopped - but Liam ended that last point pulling up short in a little jump, and ending up in a pile on the floor....
More worryingly, Liam fell on the final point and when they ended transmission, Liam was still on the floor at the back of the court and both the umpire and opponent had gone down to check on his well-being. Looked like left knee or hamstring to me.

I was going to post that despite the disappointment at losing, this was a creditable performance against a seasoned campaigner, to follow on from some good results leading up to this match. Right now though, I just hope he is OK.
