I'm not sure what it is about serve volleyers that phases Andy or about IW. I guess having the two together didn't have the desired result for us. 4-6, 6-7(5-7) wasn't what I was expecting. I thought he had had a good break and was ready to roll again. I'm gutted for him.
I guess it's abit more court time for him in the dubs and then on to historically greener pastures as Miami. Who would have thought that Evo and Kedders would outlast Andy in a tourney! they've both got really good opponents this evening, but just a glimmer.
Pity about Andy but his Indian Wells record is very poor and the courts ( get ready, get set to bang it, get set again, bang it ) so don't suit such an instinctive player.
Some years though he has played IW with no tournaments since Australia and I felt he would at least be a lot better prepared than he has sometimes seemed previously. Plus while not Andy courts they certainly didn't seem Pospisil courts either.
I did watch the end of the match and as Julia C said Pospisil indeed was playing very well and particularly played a great tiebreaker with Andy not doing a huge lot wrong.
First serve percentage 45%. An alarming number of backhand unforced errors on routine shots. Forehand generally good, spectacularly good in the game in which he broke in the 2nd set. Not convinced by the tactic of slicing backhands to Nishikori's backhand.
Nishikori clearly the more talented player so not really a surprise. Dan could have played better.
Interesting contest to watch, perhaps gives clues as to Dan's ceiling in terms of rankings. I wasn't expecting Kei's ball-striking to be so much better.

At least the get set, get set again, bang it courts are much more for him than Andy. He can both usefully use the extra get set time and he sure can bang it.

Now, c'mon Dan !
A tennis mate has told me that Pospisil does most of his training on these courts as his coach lives nearby so I suspect he was more than comfortable playing on them.
