Weeks 10 & 11 - ATP 1000 - BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells, CA

L128:  (1) Andy Murray WR 1 vs BYE

Would you Adam & Eve it:

L128:  Dustin Brown (GER) WR 82 (CH = 64 last October) vs Dan Evans WR 41 (= CH)

L128:  Kyle Edmund WR 46 (CH = 40 last October) vs Gastão Elias (POR) WR 95 (CH = 57 last October)

Kyle's reward for winning that one would be a last 64 match against the second seed, NoDjo....

... and Dan's 'reward' would be the #4 seed, Kei Nishikori.

There are better selections among the 32 seeds !

Anyway, potential early obstacles to Dan and Kyle possibly meeting in the bottom SF

Indeed an interesting whole quarter that Kyle is in, which includes Nadal and Federer seeded to meet in the last 16. Kyle could have Elias then Djokovic then Del Potro then Kyrgios / Sascha Zverev then Nadal / Federer. Do well to reach the SF !

Kyle odds on to win his first ATP tittle? Perhaps not but these are courts that I think suit his game, hopefully should he get the chance he will cause Novak son problems

Goodness. Then again, in previous times when he's had dire draws, people have withdrawn. But still ... that's the nastiest quarter I can ever recollect seeing.

Not to mention a couple of others who are in good form at the mo, Querrey, Sock, Dimitrov and Pouille.

As for Andy's draw, in case anyone was wondering whether anyone other than himself remained in his half who could hit a tennis ball :

R1: Bye
R2: Yen-Hsun Lu / Qualifier or LL
R3: Includes (30) Lopez
R4: Incl. (16) Bautista Agut / (21) Carreno Busta
QF: Incl. (7) Tsonga / (11) Goffin
SF: Incl. (3) Wawrinka / (8) Thiem / (10) Monfils / (13) Berdych

And of course I forgot to mention the considerable obstacle called Kyle that could (should) be waiting in round 2 !!

L32:  (5) Feliciano López & Marc López (ESP/ESP) CR 23 (11+12) vs Dan Evans & Andy Murray CR 559 (212+347)

L32:  Daniel Nestor & Edouard Roger-Vasselin (CAN/FRA) CR 38 (22+16) vs (4) Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares (BRA) CR 15 (7+8)

PHH & Mahut are the top seeds (surprise, surprise!), the Bryans second & Kontinen & Peers third.

Gracious. You're the 4th seeds and that's your first round draw? Thanks lots. Fifth seeds didn't do too well either, though

Just realised Dan and Andy are playing dubs together. This must be their first attempt in competition right? Very interesting indeed, I hope it works..

I wondered whether Andy was doing it trying to help Evo mentally and tactically. I love that we've got them playing together.

You always get funny results in IW, but having said that, when the bottom quarter of the draw came out Murray must have been laughing. Murray is at atp 250 level until he he plays Wilfred in QF, and we all know fat stan only plays well in GS so will not make past r2 at IW. Murray should coast to the final here.

The funny thing is that the whole time he was number 1 Novak always seemed to get these cupcake draws and Andy was always stuck with the really challenging route so it is nice for once at least to see Novak in the so called quarter of death.

(Q) Vasek Pospisil plays Yen-Hsun Lu last on Stadium 3 tonight for the honour of playing Andy in R2.

Pospisil has of course got not a bad recent record vs Brits and Lu remains the only man ever to beat Andy in Olympics singles competition, if now getting on for 9 years ago and Andy at that time apparently less than fully embracing the Olympic experience.

On Friday we have :
2nd on Stadium 3, Kyle vs Gastao Elias.
3rd on Stadium 2, Dan vs Dustin Brown.

Dan reappears later on Stadium 2 partnering Andy in the doubles.
