I just knew it somehow.
Whispers that the injury sustained at Fed Cup is lingering and worse than originally thought.

I'm not actually expecting much from Jo until June now anyway, injury or no.

Both seemed to me to give themselves little chance on return, by standing 2 paces too close.

Not quite sure how Jo managed to lose that one. She looked in total control in the first set and even in the third looked like Caroline was hanging on, until the tie-break when she just moved up about 4 gears. Still onto Miami....

I don't think that Jo is exactly a lover of heat. Combine that with maybe a lingering injury concern and ...

Carolne only won 6 return points in set 3 ( Jo won 11 ) with at least 3 of these being in the TB and 2 of the 6 being Jo DFs.

My opinion for what its worth, not sure about any lingering injury issue, where did that come from ? But Jo struggled with the 2nd kick serve of Garcia, and its probably why she also struggles relatively on clay with the higher bounce, not able to get anything much on it, and lacking control. Obviously the backhand wasn't great either, but I still thought she'd eke out a ugly victory but Garcia played an unbelievable TB after being out of sorts herself.

I'm with you Phil, I saw no sign of any injury and haven't read about any lingering injury either.

But I do think the heat was a factor - Caroline is fine in it, whereas Jo looked, even in her face, a little 'out of her comfort zone'.

I tend to be loathe to immediately think possible injury after losses, when often many other reasons, but Ali did refer to "whispers" about a lingering injury.

The french are putting it down to Garcia's new hair-do !

Tres francais, or what....... (with deliberate lack of accents !)

Actually, with all the bitterness and nastiness swirling round French women's tennis, and Garcia and Kiki M in particular, many are pleased to see her have something to smile about.

Superb given the spate of tennis related fake news this weekend, I have been fact checking and can confirm Caroline has indeed had a haircut, unfortunately Jo's probable lingering injury is a product of the Steve Bannon school of Chinese whispers (an actual institution as is the Barry Bannon school of advanced driving and raking cross field passes). Finally, it was hot. As to how hot Jo got or not in the absence of core temperature checking, only Jo knows.

Vesnina beat Kuznetsova in the final and will hit a new high of WR 13 at the age of 30.

Coming out of Indian Wells Jo will stay at WR 11 though now has Miami QF points to defend. In the race she will drop 3 places to #9, now behind Vesnina, Mladenovic and Kuznetsova.
