Week 10 - WTA Premier Mandatory ($7M) - Indian Wells, CA, USA - Hard

Serena has withdrawn, so the draw has reshuffled. Only change that might affect for Jo is Cibulkova is now the projected QF opponent, with Pliskova projected SF.

R32: Heather WATSON/Gabriella DABROWSKI (GBR/CAN) 115 v. Lucie HRADECKA/Katerina SINIAKOVA (CZE/CZE) 44

Hev's team are down as (G) on the draw - I don't know what that means; several teams have it, and others (O).

The betting odds have Heather as very strong favourite today (1.4 vs 2.75 for Gibbs). I'm surprised as I thought it would be more like 50/50. Anyway, I hope the bookies have it right.

19:00 start for the UK, and Hev's on the prime court of the day.
BT Sport have coverage.

Yes, that's precisely the bet365 odds as the match is close to starting. Or in old money Heather 2/5, Nicole 7/4. Heather essentially given about twice the chance of winning.

Quality atrocious. Gibbs marginally better.

Heather doesn't look like she has anything to offer to turn the a around. Played far better down in Acapulco than this.

Needs to get her serve going and start attacking. She won't get as kind a draw as this next week when she needs it even more.

21 unforced errors in the first set - this match is running away fast - something has to chnage pretty fast

She needs it just as much from both Mandatories, whatever the balance of points coming off. Essentially she's got 155 points in total coming off from Indian Wells and Miami, and wants to get as much as possible from the two tournaments starting now.

IW is sticky surface wise and I'm surprised with how much Gibbs seems to be hitting through her. Nicole did great here last year but I did think Heather would have the matching of her.

Not really got going at all but just about clinging on.

*2-2

Gets some gifts but doesn't do anywhere enough with 4 break points. Frustrating. Steps up with a big bhdtl to save game point then two great points to break at the fifth attempt

*4-2

Heather loses the first 4-6 - now 2-4 up in the 2nd but a real dogs dinner cry

2 doubles and it's 15-40

Then finds some great serves and lovely angles to hold

5-2*

Better, much better with intent behind her shots and Gibbs missing a few more balls but I hope she breaks here! Serve doesn't look all that dependable still.

And she does!

4-6 6-2 *0-0

Start strong Hev

Tight set, Gibbs seems to be panicking (she's defending huge points). Heather stays steadier and breaks for *4-2
