Meanwhile, Heather has got a bad draw again. Nicole Gibbs in the first round - could be a long tough match - and then if she ges through, Johanna of all people in the second round
Naomi has now lost 4/11 matches this year when winning the first set (36%). She has lost all 3 times she loses the first set.
Only Laura D. amongst Brits (with more than 2 such matches) has a worse record (3-3, 50%)
Hardly easy, but she couldn't expect that, I think that Nicole Gibbs represents a very reasonable draw for Heather, and it will be down to how near their best the two players play on the day. Heather's best is better, but not seen nearly enough in recent times.
Gibbs is struggling a bit and has huge points to defend. In this field can't agree it's a bad draw. Do agree it will probably be a long one!
Another poor result from Naomi from a set up. Has she found a new coach yet? Needs to find a way to turn a couple of these matches in her favour quickly, she's blown some really big points over the past few weeks that would have kept her top 100. Continue like this and she won't be back there Plus she won't be seeded for qualies in Miami, making things tougher.

Yes, I agree reasonable draw for Hev in Nicole Gibbs. They know each other's games well. Hev despite her rank is the more talented player, Gibbs makes the absolute most of what she's got and even then it's close. Hev managed to grind her down in and out and in and out of the rain at RG last spring. Even now thinking of the weather there makes me shudder.
It was a bit of a shock to see Heather outside the top 100 this week, in that she has been a regular there for some time and hasn't been injured at all. She has actually started the year in decent form too, and she has a good chance against Gibbs. If she is ever going to beat Jo, then Jo's first game back after injury would give Heather the best chance too.
I was looking at why Heather has dropped out of the top 100, and the main reason is that she no longer has any big points scores. In fact, she only has one in three figures, and that is Miami R16 which she will be defending soon.
