After the resumption, Katie canters into the SF, the first player to book their spot, 2 & 2
Presume Gabi had some issue of some degree from the MTO, but Katie's numbers are similar to her other matches this week.
Opponent will be either Shimzu or a name prominent from Ms. Robson's past, Ms. Lertcheewakarn. The Thai a set and a break up.
On to at least 132 points on Monday week and GB #8. Another win to reach the final will take her to 144 points which might just sneak her into the top 300. It would be close.
Win the whole shooting match and she'd be level on 164 points with Katy D as GB #7 & 8.
Great win for Gabi yesterday and good to reach the QF before she met this Aussie trip's Brit basher.
SF: BOULTER, Katie (GBR) 349 v LERTCHEEWAKARN, Noppawan (THA) 344 CH=149 2011
H2H 0-1 Sharm El Sheikh 2016 2-6 3-6
NL lost the junior Wimbledon final to Laura Robson in 2008 and then won the final the following year but she never managed to achieve what Laura managed and still hasn't broken into the top 100.
Worth noting the surface? KB also picked up 35 points on UK grass in 2016, which will be considered by commitees in blazer-filled rooms come June 2017.
2 very significant matches coming up...
Win the semi, and she gets within the top 300, and qualifies for PR insurance.
Win the final, and of her new points total of 164, over half (85) would be won on grass.
Ummm ... Steven I think you are being influenced by too much Fox News!
Congratulations indeed to Katie who must be chuffed to bits doing so well after a prolonged period of injury
Now for the Trump(petting) hyperbole. And I know you know the answer! Would Noppowan be the best example of a failed transition of junior rank and JG success at either Wimbledon or the US Open into senior rank in the face of prolonged persistence??
She would be the female Felip Peliwo. Much though I admire them both for their persistence!
Yes, this is an incredible result from Katie, she seems to have really gathered momentum this week. Taking Noppawan out this easily is a huge confidence booster for her.
The final looks different category however. Just to note that Kuzmova is only 18, she is at her current career high, and beginning of last year was junior #24. So if Noppawan might be trading a little on past glories, Kuzmova is very much a challenge in the present for Katie. She has however been run to three sets in both her last two matches against the #s 6 and 3 seeds, so hope that Katie can continue her form and give her a good go too.
