This'll make Bob's day, though perhaps not the actual draw:

L32:  Carlos Gómez (ESP) WR 617 (CH = 328 in September 2013) vs (SE) Billy Harris WR 1067 (CH =991 last month)

L32:  (Q) Jorge Hernando (ESP) WR 917 (CH = 612 in May 2015) vs (Q) Tom Farquharson WR 1127

L32:  (Q) Samuel Hodor (SVK) WR 1994 (CH = 1918 last October) vs (Q) James Marsalek WR 783

The Slovak put put the q9, Javier Pulgar, in the FQR, but on the face of it, a decent draw for the qualifiers.

Enjoyed watching a bit of Tom's match on the stream - and he's just taken the first set 7-5 - against a real duracell battery motor clay player- absolutely amazing how they cover the court and their level of fitness.

But Tom's got a bit of class....

Tom should be a top 200 player at least with his talent, shame if he's not really had the support and funds.

I haven't followed Tom enough to have any idea about his theoretical ultimate potential. But I have seen him well spoken of and he entered the top 500 in 2013 at age 21 and reached his CH 429 just after his 22nd birthday.

Of course breaking through in the rankings in early 20s under extreme LTA rigid ageist thinking ( against much evidence ) and in the past seemingly pretty inflexible matrices that required huge leaps up rankings by early 20s no doubt didn't help him at all just when he probably needed that extra help.

All the best to him, whatever he does.

Not to be for Billy who loses 6-4 7-6(4)

Marzi has fought back though and from *0-3 15-40 down, is now serving for the 2nd set at *5-4

Marzi completed his comeback, wining the 2nd set 7-5 before dishing out a breadstick in the 3rd set to win 6-7(5) 7-5 6-1

James just served for the first set - had set point - really excellent point - but the third seed guessed the passing shot right.....

Now 5-5

Identical scores from both our players - shame neither managed to squeak the first set.....
