Roger Federer

Not sure if there is a topic on Rog the Dodge but noticed he had signed up to play in Basle through 2019, meaning he has contractually committed to playing three more seasons in effect.

Will be v interesting to see and looks like we will have several v interesting years ahead of us.

Edit : Not sure if this is correct place for this post, I put it here as I saw Fed as a big rival of Andy , hence under Andy Murray section...

Interesting insight on ATP website as to impact Llubicic has had on Fed's game. Particularly the backhand

Roj deserves a page, the man is a tennis god we should pay homage. I am looking forward to his next white with gold trim tracksuit complete with wings and it's very own fluffy cloud. His English also puts most of the UK to shame. Great week for Roj great week for tennis, even British tennis if one British kid picks up a racket and try's to play a back hand like Fed!

Even if it goes in the net!

I don't want to pay homage to SmugFed, especially on a British tennis website. There are plenty of places to worship him I'm sure.

I have no issue with him being discussed, but I would question that he needs his own thread, and if so it should be under 'General Tennis Discussion'

No issue at all with discussing ole Rog, but agree this is not the place for it!  There is a thread in the General section discussing good non Brit performances or progress.  In fairness to JonH, he is a relatively recent contributor to the board and may not have known about the other thread.  Maybe the Mods could merge this into the non-Brit thread.

Also, are we still posting Andy's wins in this section, because we're missing Dubai.....

Agreed - let's not have it in Andy's domain please!

The alternative might be to have a thread in Andy's section called 'Andy's Rivals' or 'The Other Big Four' or 'Pretenders for Andy's Throne' or some such title to imply it covers news about Rog, Rafa, Nole (and maybe Stan or whoever).

Good idea, we shouldn't deny ourselves the opportunity to celebrate tennis genius purely on the grounds that it's not British and therefore doesn't exist, particularly when roj as a player and in the public eye is an admirable role model. He is part of a golden generation, as a cohort they are not perfect but lots to learn from all Andy's major rivals.

Sorry guys, wasn't paying much attention to the rules! At least it sparked a debate!

Just to wish Roger all the best!

"Roger Federer undergoes arthroscopic knee surgery, won't return until the grass, in theory. Big summer for him coming up with the Olympics (shortly after which he turns 39)."

@rogerfederer has undergone anthroscopic surgery in Switzerland and will miss Dubai, Indian Wells, Bogota, Miami & the French Open. "My right knee has been bothering me for a little while... I can't wait to be playing again soon, see you on the grass."

I have put this in the 'good luck wishes' thread too, before I found this one.

Roger Federer has announced his retirement from tennis. The Laver Cup in London next week will be his final ATP event.

Those with Laver Cup tickets will be fortunate people.
