Naomi has a qualifier in R1, with top seed and home favourite Babos potentially awaiting in R2.

A repeat of Wimbledon 2014 would be nice if that comes to pass then....

Naomi gets Anna Blinkova, 148, JCH 3, reigning world Junior champ, and pretty good 2017 form.

Naomi plays an absolutely terrible (and I mean terrible) game at *4-5 to lose the second set.

With Kuala Lumpur semi final points coming off soon, she has to find a way to turn this final set in her favour. If she goes out here, it will be a lot longer before she is back in double digits.

Is Blinkova a big talent with a bright future? Yes.

Should Naomi be winning this match? Yes.

Is she playing well enough to do so? No.

She's playing horribly, serve has lost all its bite, and Blinkova (who moves and retrieves well) is reading her game like a book.

1-3* final set

Naomi loses 3-6 6-4 6-3

Once Blinkova got ahead she was like a stream train and never looked vulnerable.

The past two weeks suggest it could be a very long road back into the top 100 for Naomi. That standard of tennis is simply not good enough, two absolutely hopeless games from 4-4* in the second when she should have been stepping up and applying pressure after saving a break point cost her it.

Hugely disappointing effort. These indoor events are few and far between, and she has to make them count.
