Pity, for now stuck in the 300s, Katie B too. Yes, capable of pushing on but how far? I'd generally say top 300 all capable, but top 200, maybe not for some. Still think Katie B might be the one, important year for her. Gabi possibly.
At least most are already qualified for Clare for the next two weeks, indeed all might end up in.
Of course on a trip like this with a group of players, presumably a coach, a run of several tournaments and a long way from home, players will probably pick up niggles and still play on through them. Nearer to home or just on their own they might call it a day and head home skipping one or more of the events. This is just conjecture but I wonder if all the girls were on top form the whole time, it would explain some of the meh results. If you're there with the coach and have paid all the cash for the trip, you might as well see if you can get something out of each event even if you're not feeling great or fully fit.
I believe that Mark Taylor may be out there with them.
I find it strange that with such a large group, all close in rankings and age, none of them are playing doubles. Perhaps this is another sign that there are significant niggles.
R1: Katy DUNNE (GBR) 266 lost to Kyoka OKAMURA (JPN) 259 5-7 6-4 4-6
Looks like a solid enough performance
Served well - didn't win as many first serve points as would hope in sets 1 & 3 (~55%); minimal DF.
Returned OK, couldn't get as much goin on return as her opponent though.
Over 3 hours; kept her level up, won the same number of points as the winner.
Just not good enough on the day.
