Week 8 - ATP 250 - Delray Beach Open, Delray Beach, FL (hard)

L32:  Adrian Mannarino (FRA) WR 56 (CH = 27 in July 2015) vs (8) Kyle Edmund WR 49 (CH = 40 last October)

The top seed is Milos Raonic, thus the other seed in Kyle's quarter.  hmm

... and while good to be 8th ranked and so seeded, Kyle appears to have drawn the 9th ranked player here, i.e. the highest ranked non seed. Mannarino can be variable but certainly could be problematic.

So actually potentially pretty tough from the get go. Will bother about the QF if and when he hopefully gets there though yes Raonic on form is the stand out player here.

Actually possibly not. I initially had quickly looked at rankings, but I see that the 7th seed ( also in the top half ) is Del Potro.

One further peculiarity of this draw is that you potentially don't want to draw a qualifier. The top three seeds in qualifying are Steve Darcis, Hyeon Chung, and Vasek Pospisil ... the first of whom would have been close to being seeded had he been in the main draw.

Fantastic isn't it, the rarefied atmosphere in which Kyle now works! Not a tournament I have really paid much attention to in the past, are they slow ( as in Indian Wells) or fast courts.

To deviate from the main theme but Florida has a large number of green clay courts, lovely to play on, the best surface I think personally for avoiding wear and tear on your body but there doesn't appear to be a tournament on the main tour on this surface.

Last few winners are:

2016

S. Querrey
2015

I. Karlovic
2014

M. Cilic
2013

E. Gulbis
2012

K. Anderson
2011

J. del Potro
2010

E. Gulbis

Suggests there is some pace in these courts!

Oh, I had to leave the screen for a minute and came back and the match seemed to be terminated early ? There had been a dispute about a line call at 5 -0 I think.

Final score was a comprehensive 6-3 6-0

That is about as comprehensive as it gets as Kyle wins 6-3 6-0

People tweeting about a "game penalty" in the last game, but I don't know what happened.

Yay

As I mentioned, Mannarino's displays can be rather variable, as I believe can be his temperament !

But that is rather emphatic.

Link to episode prior to game penalty - but I'm none the wiser - perhaps others can make out what happened ?
