To be fair Dan did seem to get better as the match went on - or at least had more ideas how to deal with the devil dirt e.g not using his sliced backhand in a way that it sit up ready to be bopped by Chardy. With all those other tournaments, even if he loses in R1, he may get enough new ideas to be able to win a round or two at RG.

I hate these dead rubbers, once the tie is mathematically over that should be it. But world is all about money, and the people that have paid getting to see some meaningless match. They should do refunds instead for the whole Sunday, or for half days.

Chardy beat Kyle 6-4 6-4 to make it 4-1 and in truth much more reflect the comprehensiveness of the French win than a 3-2 result would have.

My point was you shouldn't count dead rubbers in the final result, though I probably agree with you.
