Fed Cup 2017 World Group II Play-Off - Romania v Great Britain - 22-23 April

A few ties starting to announce locations (fairly early). Still weeks before the deadline, but perhaps a chance we'll find out the location and surface sooner than anticipated.

The deadline for announcing the venues for the playoffs is 21 days after the draw, i.e. 7 March, so we should know by the middle of next week.

Some advice please... a mate and I are well up for going to this. Are others here thinking likewise?

is there a deadline when Romania have to make decision about venue/surface? For those who have done previous (philwrig I'm talking to you) is it simplest to sort everything on your own or is it worth being in touch with anyone re packages? Do I need to be member of anything in pRticularcto secure tickets?

Sorry for the delay in replying !

This not being the zonal week, I suspect we're looking at a similar situation to Sweden ( Indy and Paul were there too ) Going on memory we definitely picked up our tickets out in Sweden from the LTA at the team hotel the day before the tie started. How we notified the LTA that we intended to spectate initially can't quite remember. The LTA will likely get a ticket allocation for the area behind the team bench. If we get more than 50 GB supporters I'll be shocked so there will be plenty tickets to go round. Possibly the strirling uni lot will be signed up for this tie, given its proximity to the UK and its importance like in Sweden.

No packages so just a matter of booking your own flights/hotels. I'm going to wait before the venue announcement before committing, but I'd love to be there.

For Sweden there was a link on the LTA website to register for tickets I think, I remember ending up phoning someone to sort out payment.

Not sure how it worked for Argentina, it was so far away I don't know if they even bothered pretending there would be travelling interest.

Yes, certainly I knew that there was something on the LTA website that got me in the right direction.

Not sure about Romania. Finances not wonderful, and two weeks in Tenerife at the end of the month may not hugely help. But it would be good.

I see that they've also held a tie in Galati a couple of years back, so for me it could really be held anywhere, just look at the DC, not sure anyone was predicting Rouen.

Hilarious title! Good for Anne!
I can only read part of it as don't have a subs, but looks very entertaining!

Rumours elsewhere that in a desperate attempt to get Simon to commit, they are suggesting a venue in her home town of Constanta in the resort of Mamaia, which holds about 1,500 people by the Black Sea

We should find out soon enough, but if it is there, you can fly to the resort from Luton.

Interesting, thanks Paul.

I was thinking that that's a very small resort. Clearly though you mean the actual potential venue - duh !

Simona confirmed in an interview yesterday it's Mamaia, and she will play.

Thanks for that, cheap flight from Luton on a Tuesday would appear the only option, hotel prices very cheap !! Still though I'd like to wait before it is officially confirmed before booking flights. For some reason all of the World group playoff ties have announced venues but none of the World group 2 ones as of yet, don't know whether they have a different deadline or its just complete coincidence.

Yeah flight days aren't that great, nothing as simple as Friday to Monday!

I think they are awaiting sign-off from ITF, but that is where the Federation has selected. Very jealous, it's out of season so won't be a time to take advantage of a beach resort but looks nice enough.

That's it confirmed. If you are going, then there are 2 flights a week there and back from Luton (not on particularly convenient days for this unless you want an extended stay!), or you can fly to Bucharest which gives you a bit more flexibility around flights and get a 3 hour train.

Will be missing this one with the kids and a summer choked full of weddings unfortunately, but if you go enjoy!
