This match, and this tie, has not done much to enhance the international reputation of Romania. The conduct of sports people, sports teams and sports crowds are undeniably influential in how people perceive countries.
Quite outrageous they weren't defaulted. Yes, there is little precedent but there are times when the precedent must be set. How offensive, unprofesional, unsportsman like must a captain be for this action to be taken? From what I saw not even a point or game default.
The positive here (and a huge one, admittedly) is just how amazing Jo was and how proud we all should be of how she came back and bossed the rest of the match.
AS Jo Durie just said on BTSport, if a player swears t the umpire, it is an immediate default. So if the captain does it, it should also be an immediate default
Russell Fuller, BBC Tennis correspondent, generally very diplomatic and cautious in his responses: "Given the language Nastase appears to have aimed at his opposing number and the on court player, Romania should have been defaulted"
Thankfully, Johanna used her racquet to drown out his hateful racket. Proud of her for not just taking this, and then turning it emphatically to the advantage of herself, and moreso, her country. True British grit. Well done.

This whole tie hasn't painted any Romanian party in a positive light. Nor some Brits, such as Lloyd Glasspool's disregard for the feelings of his fellow country people. Shame, really.
That was very difficult to watch. The only correct decision that the officials made was to suspend the match. That was only because they made so many mistakes leading up to that point, that it had escalated to an almost volatile state. I feel for both players really but what a job to come out and play the way Jo did after the break. Absolute class!
What did Glasspool say btw?

Hmm, just seen some of Glasspool's tweets about good for viewing figures. And his language could be better, it's not cool, mate. I don't know if he deleted any.
I kind of took note earlier in the year when he got badly knocked out in a GB future. He came out with "do they know who I am" kind of stuff, that he was the highest ranked British player there and had been put on the worst court.
Be good if your tennis results were rather better, Lloyd.
Great effort from Jo to regain her composure and see out the match in very difficult circumstances. Nastase's behaviour an absolute disgrace and needs to be punished.
