Interesting day Laura D had a coach with her, which was a surprise to me. She started very well with good serving and lots of forehand winners and deserved the first set even if she was gifted it (2DFs and a big shank). Kristina upped her game started serving better and counting down the errors and Laura struggled to keep the levels from the start of the first set. Laura was up a break in the final set, but the other girls upped her levels and Laura kept making errors. Suzy Larkin - first time I've seen her. Started well early break up, but a bit inconsistent and never really got competitive. Smallish build, uses court craft well such as love and drop shots as she lacks the power to cause damage. I think she has picked up some easy points and is slightly overranked. Alicia Barnett - started like a house on fire. Won the first four games playing super tennis and then started making errors and lost the next 5. Wasn't really competitive after that. I can see potential, but probably won't progress past 15ks Lauryn - had chances against a player with a similar style. Deservedly won the first set and almost pulled back the second set, but the game faded away from her after that. She has a nice game and is capable of moving up the rankings, although Uni beckons. Jodie - up against a seeded player, but there wasn't much in it. Very close first set, but then picked up a thigh(?) injury and didn't have the movement to compete. If she was fully fit, it would have gone to 3 sets. The backhand is very solid, the big weapons which were the serve and forehand have become very inconsistent. Lucie Ahl will need to tidy these up. Also mentally fragile. Eleanor - super impressed. Seems to be working with Lucie Ahl and did quite a bit of work on her serve on the practice courts. She has a super game. Big serve, powerful forehand and a lovely flat slice. The girl she played was excellent and got a lot of balls back into play, but she outplayed. She definitely has potential to break into the top 300. There are still concerns for me. She looked tired in the second set, so I'm not sure how fit she is and she came off court with a slight limp, so I'm guessing the long term injuries are still affecting her. Beth - very close first set. The German was making errors on the backhand and Beth exploited these. After some treatment for her thigh, the German cut out the errors, pushed Beth around the court and Beth's levels dropped, so the second set was over very quickly. Beth had a coach with her. Olivia - first time I have seen her play singles and she has a nice game and will make a decent 15k player when she finishes her studies. She started very well against Maia and was a double break up, but then Maia started to play and reeled off the games as Olivia's levels dropped. Not sure what to make of Maia - seen her a couple of times and she is either very hot or very cold. She started off very cold, but then turned on the burners. Still think her serve is a weak point of her game. Toby was with her. As for tomorrow - if Eleanor recovers and is fully fit, she will have a good chance. As for Maia, she cannot afford to have a cold patch against Benoit or she will get beaten very quickly.

Ellie has some big guns, but her serving was a little erratic, largely because she gives it some tap with her second delivery.
Played cannily in the second set, reeling off five games in a row and played the drop shot very well.
As for her knee, who knows? She looked to be limping at Billesley but there was apparently no reaction.
Overall fitness might be another matter, given her very long lay-offs.
She was blowing a bit at the start of the second set, but as soon as she broke back, there was only going to be one winner.
Bektas will show more resilience than her opponent today, but Iwouldn't put it past Ellie to overturn the Glasgow result.

Searching for tennis courts. I reckon there's about 1 court per 25,000 people in our wonderful borough :(
The 15 year-old Polish girl (born Oct. 2001) is playing on the livestream at the moment, against the second seed. For anyone who follows juniors a lot....
Interesting that Eleanor was with Lucy Ahl, presumably means that she is now based back in this country rather than at Kim Clijsters academy in Belgium. Not sure if she is still there but at one time, after the NTC stopped being a training hub, Lucy was one of the coaching staff at JTC working with Jodie et al.
Eleanor must break to stay alive, 4-6 4-5*
2/2 on BP, so if she can get a chance...
10 DF today, a differential of -8 to Bektas, who has 2
8 points is the total points differential of the match so far.
