For those who were commenting that clubs do very little - good to see 30 local primary kids down for a couple of hours today. Well behaved, but got a bit bored....
Missed a point for a double break and promptly falling apart (although Scmiedlova has stopped hitting the back wall every third shot, which has rather a lot to do with things)
Eleanor takes the first set 6-2. That in spite of serving issues in that she has had no aces and 6 DFs ( that's 6 from 13 second serves ), though not broken. Things looking good once the ball is in play.
Beth has broken back for *4-4 against the third seed ( 2 breaks apiece ).
Looking at results over last few weeks only Maia and Eleanor show promise sorry if that's brutal I was going to Glasgow a few weeks ago but was too ill to attend
Are any of the others likely to break through?
Eleanor won 6-2 6-3 and is ranked again. She will take our total of ranked women to 37 on Monday week.
Beth lost 6-7(4) 0-6
Speaking of players breaking through I think Jodie ( still of course a junior and joining the rankings on Monday ) should move fairly speedily up these rankings. I notice that she had a close match with the 7th seed today.
I think, looking further forward, with our other younger juniors, there are more going to break through than guys though we look to have a decent 2001 born crop of guys.
The actual depth in GB rankings has been moving towards the women already in the last year if you look at say players in the top 1000 or 25th ranked Brit. But naturally it is those with real potential to reach higher echelons ( WR 500 and above ) we most look out for. And yes I'd say for the foreseeable that is relatively limited with both the girls and guys.

Yes, Emily App, Jodie and Lauryn are obviously three 1999-ers who are well capable of having a 'break-through' (more so than Maia, in my opinion). Although studies will be a factor in their playing schedules.
We've also got a group of women who could most certainly be ranked 200-300 places higher but I'm not sure you'd call that a breakthrough....
