Wasn't able to stay long, as had a toddler to supervise.

Scott Duncan won 6-2 3-0 ret. He was in complete control, against an opponent who had the wristiest forehand I've ever seen. Like a squash shot.
George Davies lost (I think) 6-2 in the 3rd.

Was mainly watching Anton Matusevich. Came in at the end of the first set, which he lost 6-2. He was clearly very frustrated, in the final game, the racket spent more time on the floor than in his hand, but definitely frustration rather than petulance. Looked like his opponent (who was very solid indeed) was going to run away with it when he went 3-0 up in the second (helped by a line cord dropping dead on break point against Anton), but Anton had managed to drag it back to *4-5 when I had to go - I didn't want a baby screaming on a decisive point.

He's got a lot of talent, and a good range of shots. Was definitely able to compete with a competent opponent, just was making too many unforced errors. Quite a few seemed to be when he was having to step back to hit a backhand, suspect that with his weight of shot he doesn't get many balls coming back at him with interest in the juniors. His actual defence was good though.

Thanks Etienne (with you and paulisi we are well-served for roving reporters!)

Pleased for Scott - his match was so long and tight yesterday, though he might be tuckered out today. Shame the other guy was injured but....

I'm not a fan of George Davies' tennis but good that he managed to get to a third set.

And the reports from both of you are very encouraging for young Anton who obviously has some pretty good pedigree there....

It sounds like playing some senior tennis is exactly what he needed, it puts junior tennis in perspective and is an excellent taster of a level he needs to start to have an impact at over the next 18 months. Youngsters with parents who are ex professional sportsman themselves have an edge in that their parents understand the long term agenda.

Poor old Josh Paris has the 6ft 6 French tennis sensation who is only 16 to play today. He had the honoured of losing to him last week.

Rumour is the guy could be the next big thing.

Rayane, according to what I've read, is about 6 ft 3 (unlike Jaimee Floyd Angele who's the same age and about 6ft 6 or 7)

But he's certainly caused a bit of a stir (winning Les Petits As helped, of course). I think he's gone pro, doesn't want anything to do with junior tennis, doesn't even play the nationals any more, I think (though I don't have my papers to hand).

But he's had some nasty injuries this past year (right elbow, then a foot fracture).

He's been training with Rafa and, with his family background, is shaking things up a bit.

Marcus is playing doubles with Jack Molloy this week, and not Neil Pauffley, who isn't playing dubs.

I'll be surprised if that's the case, he'll probably be retired by then wink
