Week 7 - ITF ($25K) - Perth, Australia - Hard

Given that I had Katie in my top 10 predictions rather than Harriet, think that result merits a "well done, with apologies" from me; here's hoping she can upset the rankings in R1 too :)
Looks a handy R1 draw for Freya...

Good to see the final swing was to Freya with 6 of the last 7 games. Good that she evidently managed to close out the final set straightforward enough after sets one and two.

Things looking a bit difficult lately for Freya, but hopefully her decent looking draw can bring a main draw win and build confidence. All the best to her and Katie.

Harriet and Abby were a set and a break up, and had 3 match points in the MTB

Katie loses, 3-6 6-3 1-6
2/10 on BP, compare to Hon's 4-9
1st serve pts won was ~75% in first two sets, only 30% in the decider

Freya in trouble against the 16 year old, 3-6
6 DF in 4 service games, and only winning barely 11% of points on the Ukranian 1st serve.
there is a toilet break.

That's disappointing after R1 went so well :(

Katie has withdrawn from next week's 25k; but still on the enry list for 27/2, so hopefully nothing too serious.

To be fair, if you watch the videos on Tennis366, the first round wins weren't stunning. Katie's opponent in particular seemed barely able to find the court in the segments I watched. Which is not to take away from the victories, but I'd not interpret them as indicators of good form generally.

I haven't seen any of the R1 action myself and take your point; I was meaning in the sense of hoping that a momentum might have been gathering pace through qualies and R1 which hope was thwarted in R2
