Emily Appleton strengthens the field here, with Fran Jones the next highest ranked at 40 (overtaking the number 2 seed today). Fran is in a tough quarter though with the girl who beat her last week as the first seed she is scheduled to meet, and the eventual winner also in the section.
Generally with Emily in her final junior year, I'd be pretty much of the same opinion as Mervatron, and have been in the junior rankings thread re Emily and Jodie. I'd put senior tournaments now before say playing juniors partly for year end WCs to be used next year.
However, since I learned that Emily was going to college ( clarified by The Optimist as this coming autumn ) I do see senior competition now as less of a priority in her case though still probably useful.
In the doubles after byes from R1, in R2 the #1 seeds Emily & partner lost 6-3 7-6(9) and not surprisingly the #2 seeds Fran & partner pulled out - shown as "Retired" with no score.
Hope Ms Jones is all right. And good luck to Ms Appleton!
As I noted in the week 8 ( 20/02/17 ) entries thread, Fran has today withdrawn from that week's Spanish 15K. I know no more than that though.
Yes, that worried me, given what earlier articles had said about hitting the ball on heavy surfaces causing her to need surgery. Do hope she's all right.
