I had Katie, Maia and Suzy as the three.

Katie lost was a big surprise. Jodie and Beth super wins and should guarantee wildcards for next week.

Last year in this week Katie was playing Fed Cup and winning two of her three matches.

Generally not been a good time since. I really hope that in the coming months she can get and stay fit and truly show her talent.

Interesting 4 through to R2, all of whom have potential real upside to their rankings. How much, time will tell.

As well as Jodie getting her ranking, Suzy and Beth, just with a point so far, have probably already taken out their CHs of 675 and 732 respectively. CD points to belief with Beth ( and a win such as today's must help ) and Suzy just seems to need to keep building as she has been over the last year and probably now spread her wings more.

With the points Maia is due to drop this week and next she wouldn't take out her CH 711 unless possibly if she won the tournament this week. But if and when she is able to concentrate more on the pro circuit there is certainly the ability there to go a lot higher.

I think Maia will probably play a similar schedule to last year around her studies.

Two straight set losses
Jodie Anna 4-6 3-6 - the JE Udvardy bashing all the Brits this week.
Maia 4-6 4-6

Sarah Beth now in play, 3-3*

Shame. I'd hoped that one out of those two might get a win.

Laura S beat Udvardy last week but, as teammates, it might have been a slightly funny match anyway.

I'm interested to see how Suzy does. I know nothing about her tennis but I have a (rather unfounded?) low regard for Harmony Tan so I'm hoping that Suzy might pull off an upset.

And as for Beth, well it all depends really how things are going on in that mindset of hers. Mind you, Klaartje has a lovely game, and really should be higher ranked, but plays as though she's trying to lose half the time too (Alicia Barnett thrashed her at Roehampton, in an excellent match, but should have been closer) - so Lord knows what the two of them will do....

3 Brits played so far, 3 first set losses, all 4-6
Can the latest, Sarah Beth, buck the rest of the pattern and at least get a set? 4-6 *0-1

... No! She cannot.
As SBG goes down in straights, 4-6 1-6

Just Suzy left.
