Week 6 - ATP 250 - Garanti Koza Open, Sofia, Bulgaria (hard)

Only the doubles draw available at the moment.

L16:  Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski CR 167 (76+91) vs Wesley Koolhof & Matwé Middelkoop (NED/NED) CR 98 (48+50)

That's a tough one! hmm

L16:  Mikhail Elgin & Andrey Kuznetsov (RUS/RUS) CR 275 (88+187) vs (3) Dom Inglot & Florin Mergea (ROU) CR 66 (43+23)

I sincerely hope that by the middle of this coming week, Elgin and Zelenay are sick and tired of losing to GB players.

Regardless of what happens here (and in Quimper), it's good to see the Skupskis back in the mix.

Elgin is actually playing with Andrey Kuznetsov.

Indeed he is.  Inexplicable error now corrected.

Very good result that. Neal was struggling on serve throughout, but they got it done!

Great to see the brothers making waves at the Main Tour level.

QF:  Mariusz Fyrstenberg & Martin Klizan (POL/SVK) CR 286 (73+213) vs Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski CR 155 (70+85)

Another possible banana skin, methinks, as F & K did for the fourth seeds, F's former other half, Marcin Matkowski, & Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, by 7-6(7) 6-7(3) [16-14] (some tussle!) this morning!

I watched the MTB of that match. Matkowski served for it at 14-13 (only match point on serve) and Klizan completely shanked a return over Qureshi's head in to the corner for a clean winner. Fyrstenberg then played a great point to get the mini break and then returned a Matkowski smash to win the match. Was superb!

So close. What a shame.

But really encouraging at another level - they've defeated two solid tour players and lost in a very, very tight match to another two. Things are looking positive.
