With this 29 points, he's already handily covered the 10 points that he loses on 27 February. As others have pointed out, he has a lot of points coming off on 20 March - but there's a lot of time (and tournaments) between now and then. Well done to him. Excellent work. And Melzer is fallible ...
Ah, good point! That would be excellent (though qualifying ... and losing in qualies ... doesn't seem to disagree with him either) Watched two games of the following match, which is Casper Ruud v Alexey Vatutin (?). Can't see Ruud staying in Challengers for long, somehow.

Vatutin (q6) beat Ed (q2) in straight sets in the FQR...
If I remember correctly, the last time Ed got a LL place in a challenger, he went on to make the final before losing to Evo. Would be good if he could repeat that this time.

It's like dejavu all over again.
Go Ed.
Can you have dejavu all over again?! - sort of like double deja vu or a sort of groundhog day

Ruud has just beaten Vatutin by 6-2 4-6 7-6(5)...
Slightly off topic, Luca Vanni (WR 148/CH = 100 in May 2015/31 years old), the Italian eighth seed, is now the only one left in the draw after Melzer downed Copil (3) by 4 & 4 earlier this afternoon!
Vatutin looked quite decent in the little that I saw: it looked as if it would be a fun match to watch in full ... and sounds as if it was. But Ruud seems potentially really, really good a la Alexander Zverev.

And now Vanni bites the dust, beaten by 3 & 5 by the local boy, Marton Fucsovics (WR 163)! The draw's wide open - unless Melzer continues his revival!
Ed Corrie and Jurgen Melzer are about to start play.
Edit: Watched a few points of first game, which Mr Corrie won, and first point of the second, in which he made a very nice passing shot indeed to go to 0-15. Were I Mr Corrie, win or lose, this is what I'd be playing for - the chance to be up against a former top-10 player with lots of points at stake ... and to be playing shots like that. Hope the rest goes as well.
Further edit: I am not suggesting that it doesn't matter whether one wins or loses. Or that individual points are the be-all and end-all. Just that being out there to compete under such circumstances, and competing well, must be an encouragement, no matter what.
