If I remember correctly, the last time Ed got a LL place in a challenger, he went on to make the final before losing to Evo. Would be good if he could repeat that this time.
Correct, in Canada, he was outstanding in his QF and SF.
Before the draw got under way, I'd have said that that wasn't going to be the case this time, as, assuming he reached the quarters, he'd almost certainly have to face the second seed, Sergiy Stakhovsky, but he was beaten in three earlier by Blaz Kavcic, while Yannik Reuter, his opponent in the last 16, if he beats Piros, despatched Donskoy (5) in three yesterday...
Was having Internet connection problems just now. Really pleased to see that he made it when finally I got back on. He has a day off tomorrow to recharge his batteries after a bit of a marathon against the Belge (1:58:53) - though by no means as much of a marathon as Skugor vs Ivashka (2:56:53 )! We find out whom he plays in the QF then. Well done, Ed.
Some handy points here helping to defend some of the chunk he has to come off from last years Drummondsville final v Evo. Good chance in the QF as well.
QF: (LL) Edward Corrie WR 271 vs Yannick Maden (GER) WR 255 (CH = 253 last month)
Hard to believe that Maden was the top seed in Glasgow & lost to Jonny Gray (Q) in the second round! He's just seen off Blaz Kavcic (WR 170) by 6-3 3-6 6-4 in two hours & 39 minutes & it was Kavcic who did for "Stakh"! Could prove a bit of a handful for Ed....
