Girls: 37th Asuncion Bowl, Paraguay, clay - Grade 1 (Week 5)

Usually the COSAT Circuit climaxes in March but this year there is a reduced schedule of just G1 events leading up to the GA in Brazil, so there are just 3 events left starting with this G1. Fran Jones faces a familiar opponent in round1, who she beat last week

R1 (L64)

(6) Francesca Jones v Paula Baranano (ARG)

Here's hoping Fran continues her push up the rankings this week :)

Fran continues today with another convincing win. in the quarter-finals she plays an American who upset the second seed. Hailey Baptiste looks to be much stronger than her first two opponents, with for example a 7-5 6-3 defeat to the Australian Open champion in her previous tournament (Orange Bowl)

R2

(6) Francesca Jones d. Jimena Rodriguez-Benito (USA) 6-1 6-4

QF

(6) Francesca Jones v Hailey Baptiste (USA)

Fran could do with some decent doubles points. Went out in first round again.

Yes, though her doubles points overall are comparatively not too bad. Just recently not added though this week she and her partner did have a close match against the 4th seeds who have gone on to reach the final.

I take it that Fran will fancy a crack at Roland Garros juniors given that she seems rather proficient on clay.

Why?

More power to her if we have a youngster whose rankings actually come from singles.

Too right, some of our juniors rankings are quite flattering because of doubles points. They are a nice Brucie bonus, increase the amount of tennis played but high quality singles performances are the default currency of development. Well done Fran
