I'm a bit surprised Eleanor lost with the tennis she was playing yesterday, though I know nothing more about the Anerican girl than the basic info that has been posted. But at the moment it is just so good to see her out on court and hopefully able to really build things going forward.

Pity, but while one hopes for players to play up a level when at home, realistically we only had one direct entry here and Maia just scraped in. Three into R2 was about as best we could hope for.
All these girls who would in theory have been much more competitive chose higher grade events ( including focussed stints well away from home in the case of the Oz girls ) over this home relatively very strong 15K.
It was bad enough that Rae/Smith played a UK 10k last year when they were in the Fed Cup team, robbing up and coming players of a chance of pocket money and ranking points. As they will not form the FC doubles team, I see their presence here as entirely negatiive for British tennis; I'm sorry they won today and I hope they lose in the next round.
If this is the Fed Cup UK team's doing, I wouldn't be at all surprised. I thought that singling out Joss alone, when one of their strengths has been the longevity and continuity of the partnership, was a particularly dumb move. Sending them here to knock their compatriots out of a competition that is meaningless to Jossanna, smacks of idiocy.
