Laver Cup

day 1 draw is

Thiem v Shapovalov

Fognini v Sock (really, Sock??)

Tsitsipas v Fritz

Federer and Zverev v Shapovalov and Sock

Doubles seems the tastiest match to me

How's it been this year for anyone watching?

I watched some last year and some decent tennis but the nebulous concept of Europe vs the rest of the world is an issue for me. What does it really matter apart from the players' further increased bank balances for being in the winning team?

I note plenty MTBs and other TBs. How err jolly exciting ( and/or convenient ).

I don't care about the Laver Cup. (Or the ATP Cup. Or, indeed, the Davis Cup all that much). Hadn't followed the scores on Friday. And hadn't intended to see any.

BUT, by chance really, I ended up watching most of the Federer v Nick K match yesterday and that was brilliant.

Really good tennis. Extremely close. Great atmosphere. Two of my favourite players. The teams were really into it. And the audience. AND the MTB was just perfect, it's the first time I've seen it in singles and I loved it......

It's a strange one. Like you , I dont care for it. Strangely because i like the players more, i find myself supporting team world (supporting a loose phrase), and when I've watched it the tennis has been exciting and very watchable. But I dont care for it and it doesn't matter as an event.

For me it's an exhibition with bite, if that makes sense. It has a place and long may it continue, but I dont think it has a formal place on the tour, that was a mistake.

Davis cup I will care about, I think. Atp cup, I'm not sure.

Rugby union world cup, now that I do care about!

Fedal fans love it.

Do not agree that the h2h's count officially though - it is an exho and not a proper ATP tournament.

A side note - the bbc article on Federers win over Kyrgios depressingly refers to Nick as being Greek rather than Australian. Given this competition is about Europe vs the rest of the world it really suggests the journalist wasnt really engaging their brain when they churned the article out...

Europe d. World in Geneva, 13-11, with it coming down to the wire in the last match (again) and on Sascha (also again)

Alexander Zverev wins the decisive match for the 2nd consecutive year, beats Milos Raonic 6-4, 3-6, [10-4].

I feel it may have been better if World had won this year than Europe.

London O2 will host the 2022 Laver Cup

Ben Rothernberg "Nice get for London:

After losing the ATP Tour Finals starting next year, Laver Cup 2022 will be held in the O2 Arena from September 23-25, 2022."

I would definitely try and go to this, it looks like a fun and interesting event, partic after our domestic team events.

I have it on good authority that Cameron Norrie is the singles alternate for Team Europe at the Laver Cup, whereas the alternate shown on the team page, López, is the doubles alternate, though we'll only know for sure if someone on the team has to withdraw from a match

Anyone on the board thinking of getting tickets for the Laver Cup in September - assuming it still is September?

I am toying with it, presumably there will be a Brit (Cam most likely) on the Europe team when it is picked...

ETA - with a decent chance that GB may get a Davis Cup group to host as well, which would be a week or so before Laver Cup, which would be great. I think they are announcing group venues in April? Maybe I should hold out for that instead?!

Cor it is isnt it. I wonder what the single session prices will be, Id imagine starting at £100 going by the below.

From the Laver Cup website.

Multi-session tickets are on sale Friday, March 4 at 10:00am GMT.

Seats at every price level will be released at the start of the sale.

Prices range from 185 GBP to 2420 GBP, not including 20% local tax, the AXS ticketing fee and a facility fee.

I also wouldn't go if Zverev played and he has played for 3 out of the 4 years it's run.
On the other hand might be Federer's farewell
