Week 5 - Challenger (€43,000+H) - Quimper, France - Indoor Hard

QR1: Liam Broady WR 320 vs Alexis Musialek (FRA) WR 570 (CH 255 in July 2015)

QR1: (q7) Ed Corrie WR 272 vs Grégoire Jacq (FRA) WR 366 (CH 363 in October 2016)

The winners of those two matches will meet in QR2! They are in the qualifying bracket of the q1 seed Yannick Mertens (BEL) WR 243, though in truth the rankings of the seeds are all relatively close.

Well if it comes to pass I fancy Liam who is already one up on Ed this year following his British tour win around the turn of the year.

This kid needs to get his act together fast, or a life on the futures tour is immanent

Jacq made the final of the 25k ITF at Bressuire last week - he's obviously playing OK - unfortunately......

But that top half is a nightmare. Hurrah to the Skupskis for avoiding it. There are far, far too many nasty pairings (eg Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer). In the bottom half, to be honest, their actual first round draw is the one that would concern me the most.

Ken and Neal had such a strong start to the year last year, that if they are going to improve their ranking, they will have to do some damage in an ATP 250 of two.

QF:  (WC) Geoffrey Blancaneaux & Marc Gicquel (FRA/FRA) UNR (901+0 [but a CH of 38 in January 2009!]) vs (2) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski CR 167 (76+91)

The WCs are an interesting combination:  GB is a young whippersnapper of 18, while the vastly experienced MG, at 39, is old enough to be his father!  The match should be equally interesting!

I've only ever seen Blancaneaux from the clips when he won Roland Garros juniors last year. Is Gicquel coaching him?
