This new generation who have actually achieved precisely what so far ?
And at the Aussie Open, one under 25 in the last 16. And Dominic Them is so not the finished article. Novak and Andy were certainly not downed by new generation. Federer, Nadal and Wawrinka continue on this week
It's looking far from move over time with still an ongoing window for continued success from those who have already done it. "Near impossible" - really ??!
Would you care to respond to these points, Vandenburg, and explain why you think this new generation is indeed ready to step up ?
I went for 2 more - one more Wimbledon and one other. May be more, may be less, hopefully more.

I think the problem is more to do with potential road blocks that were not there 1 or 2 years ago, yes the big other 3 were always a roadblock, but now I really do think there is even more.
A grandslam draw is becoming more like minefield where you have to try avoid the bombs.
Nadal was lucky to get out from his Zverev encounter.
We shall see what dimitrov does
Roanic also somebody that can cause trouble
Agreed the following will never cause trouble : Nishikori, Goffin,Berdych
What I am trying to say, that the R16 and QF potential bombs this season are far more dangerous than they were last few years??
This Slam "minefield" seems in this one Slam to have constituted not much more than 30 yo Istomin and 29 yo Zverev playing tremendous matches against under par Djokovic and Murray respectively. Players ( often older players ) playing games of their lives happens and we just happen to have had two here. Dramatic, with both going down, but in truth not much more to it than that.
Again, Federer, Nadal and Warinka advance, and Thiem, already the highest ranked relative youngster and #8 seed, is the only under 25 in the last 16.
We are fresh out of 2016 with the four slams having 2 titles and a runner up from Djokovic, a title and two runners up from Murray ( with Wawrinka and Raonic taking the remaining title and runner up ), and a year generally dominated by Andy and Novak who have a huge rankings lead and have generally set themselves apart.
Rarely has so much been read into so little with so little evidence. The lack of a new generation stepping up is actually a bit disappointing in many ways, but hopefully Andy can benefit.
As far as I can see there is no new generation threatening the likes of Andy Novak and Stan. Also Rafa and Roger have had injury issues otherwise they wouldn't be that far behind if at all perhaps. The big 4 all make the breakthrough by 20-21 there is nobody bar Zverev that age group and he is a long way off. By the time Andy Novak etc give up most of the new generation so to speak will also be pushing 30.
I would say it ll be 4-5 years before we see anyone at the top again in the way Novak and Roger have done.
