Texas is located in the Southern part of the U.S. - no one there is considered a "Yank" because of the U.S. Civil War when they fought the "Yanks." The South is where the phrase "Yankee Go Home" originated. To continue to refer to Southerners and the South as "Yanks" is about like referring to Andy Murray as "English" - it is considered insulting. "Handily" is an English word - is in the OED and is colloquially neither Southern nor American. Winning a tennis match 6-1, 6-3, while facing only 1 break point, is considered by many to have won "handily."
Texas A&M University (where Austin Krajicek attended and played for) and Texas Christian University (where Cameron Norrie attends and plays for) are close rivals - much like Arsenal and Manchester United. When someone from Texas Christian University plays someone from Texas A&M University, there is extra motivation to win. Do you want to know about Cam, his school, his motivation and what he cares about or do you just want to insult me? Because I think it's the latter, I will not post here anymore. Thanks to the other posters for the welcome. Cheers.
Jared, I've enjoyed your posts - please do keep posting. SC was maybe a tad out of order but things often sound different when written from how one intends, it's one of the risks of a forum. Honestly, don't disappear !
I've enjoyed your posts too Jared, so please keep going. You made it clear in your first post that you were American so none of us should be surprised if your posts have a US flavour to them, rather we should delight in the fact our British players are winning international fans. Many of our young Brits are now choosing to accept scholarships to colleges your side of the Atlantic, indeed young Mr Gray has just headed off to your own TCU, so IMO your posts are very relevant and add to the board.
I think many in the UK are not so sure about the exact use of these terms, no offence meant I'm sure. Your input is highly valued Jared, its fascinating how things are in the states, please keep posting..
It's been really interesting reading your posts Jared and I hope you will keep them coming :)
Handily is a word used here in this part of England (Shropshire)...well South of the Scottish border.
Yank is a catch-all phrase commonly used this side of the Atlantic to connote people from USA without understanding the origin of the word.
As a horse racing fan I've used and seen used the term 'won handily' very often. Other favourites of mine are 'won cosily' and best of all 'won doing handsprings'. Vocabulary is great - we should all use more of it!

Jared, ignore SC. She's the forum oppressor, and being a moderator will probably delete this post.

Jared you must stay, this forum has a history of dictatorship and trying to silence the truth. We can stay strong together
Good win for NoCam, draw has opened up too. I think he should be looking to end the year ranked around 150, that would be nice progress.
This board is SO different to many others mainly because of the civility shown to each others. We're all capable of typing a message which dosen't read as nicely as others would want it to but Jared, you wern't spoken to nicely I grant you but, c'mon, dont disappear. Its surely obviously how many appreciate your contribution, it would be a shame to lose it.
I don't know of any other forum where there is such robust support (thankfully) when there is miscommunication or inappropriate (perhaps mean is a better discription) posts made. I speak from experience following the occasional unintentional skirmish induced by expressing an opinion. There is an element of bullying around inappropriate apostrophe use from the grammar pedants, I used to strut around a minor American academic institution despite being barely literate due to a comprehensive education in a dialectic that the rest of the UK at best can't understand and for the most part finds nauseating, ridiculing my colleagues about their ridiculous spelling and use of English. However recently I have been enlightened, my pomposity was without foundation.
Our modern English has been contaminated by incessant migration of all things European into the so called mother tongue. In contrast the more phonetic so called Americanisms are much more consistent with olde English as spoken by the pilgrim fathers. Jared I would not only encourage you to continue posting but do so with the spirit and vigor of George Washington and fight the good fight for US college tennis. I really want to hear about our 200 college players their mom's and the color of their rackets.
