Repeat in singles, please.

Laura being bookies favourite is somewhat perplexing. Traded early breaks, Burger holds to 30

*1-2

Laura broke for *4-3

Serving for it she saves three break points before finally winning a point on the deuce side. However she misses the set point, saves a fourth break point, then takes set point number 2.

6-4 0-0*

Glimmer of a chance at 30-all but Burger holds

*5-4

Laura has sailed through her service games this set. Not sure that will continue this time!

Both players were struggling to win even 50% of the points on their own services at the start of the match. That has now reversed with serves so dominant they seem unlikely to break serve. With Laura already a break up in the 2nd she looks to have a good chance. Laura serving for the match with 2nd set percentage of points won 77% on 1st serve and 86% on 2nd. So can she close it out?

2 match points...

Double fault...

Super! Looks a much improved performance over that against Hesse, and whilst Burger herself had a nightmare down under, that's Laura's best win in a while (and her only win for a while too).

Also the sort of performance which, if she can back it up both here and next week, suggests she might be able to step in as singles back up if she's called up in Estonia. Burger is roughly where most nations #2 is at.

Laura's next opponent is either Martina Trevisan (ITA) 236 or Quirine Lemoine (NED) 190. She played Lemoine twice as a junior and lost both times.

Yes, I guess, if most nations' #2s are indeed ready for a grilling ...
