Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - doubles

I have optimistically included week 4 in the title. C'mon girls.

R1: Naomi Broady & Heather Watson CR 138 (66+72) vs (PR) Karin Knapp & Mandy Minella (ITA/LUX) CR 646 (541+105) - Knapp and Minella have CHs of 49 from 2015 and 47 from 2013 respectively.

R1: Jocelyn Rae & Anna Smith CR 157 (83+74) vs (4) Sania Mirza & Barbora Strycova (IND/CZE) CR 19 (2+17)

Without gathering the exact evidence, I am under the general impression that Jossanna don't half get some stinking draws.

With r3 points to defend and two first round exits this year, that draw is a disaster for Joss and Anna. Top 100 looking shaky.

They've drawn seeds in the first round of 7 of their last 8 WTA's/GS. And the time they didn't (last week) the team contained multi Slam champ Errani.

In the second half of last season they showed very good form with a number of good results/performances including taking Makarova/Vesnina to 6-4 in the third at Wimbledon, beating top seeds BMS/ Goerges in reaching the semis in Gstaad, thrashing 3 successive opponents to reaching the final in Tokyo including beating the 4th seeds 6-1 6-1 in R1, taking a set off Hingis/Jankovic in Guangzhou, beating Atawo/ Spears in R1 of Luxembourg in reaching the semis.I'd say during that period their form was of a top 40 team.

Jossanna very competitive in the first set against Mirza/Strycova, but did not convert chances like their opponents (0/2 against 1/3 on BP), 3-6

Joss and Anna lost 63 61

Naomi and Hev lost a mammoth game at 5-3* (but no match points) then were broken. 5-5* final set.

Naomi & Hev lost 7-5 2-6 7-6(5)

They were *3-6 in the TB, saved 2 MPs on serve but not the third on return.

Miss a break point at 5-all and lose 75 26 76(5)

Bad one to be honest, they really should have won. Had it but couldn't close their chances at the end.

Shame.

They also served for it at 5-4, such a pity
