Just getting better and better.
His bhand slice is becoming trademark... Pundits all over it on Eurosport coverage.
Well done Dan.

People continue to miss the point about the backhand slice. Yes it is a great shot but what makes it so effective is the variety he has on that wing. He can go flat down the line, he can go cross court with top spin and when he is playing well and mixing it up that is when the slice is most effective.

But so so much more as well  ( edit: than that backhand slice )

Oh yay oh yay oh yay !!!

Could watch that point at *2-2 in the final TB over and over again. Movement, desire and that final shot, and Bernard's public appreciation in that moment. Good on him. Then with the following mini break for 4-2* the head bowed in hands from John Tomic and great commentary "that must be inspiring"

Well done, lad

Probably huntley93 but here we'll forgive pro brit fervour...
Tsonga next in last 16, just amazing, playing with such intelligence now. Really impressive, starting to enjoy watching Dan these days because he is consistent now with great variation and not so patchy.

Just gonna put it out there but with the way things are going Murray Evans final anyone? Or am I getting a bit too excited!

We'll have to be content with a SF meeting unless there are plans for a redraw  biggrin

That would be great, but impossible. Semi-final to follow wins over Tsonga and Warwinka maybe ?

Quite hard work keeping ahead of that Murray guy in the race. As of live right now, Evo is #4, Andy #5.

This is genius, especially the commentary:

The BBC once again demonstrate their high standards of journalism

Dan Evans joined Andy Murray in the last 16 of the Australian Open with a brilliant performance to give Britain two men in the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time since 2002.

I guess that they have already forgotten about last years' US Open no

Brilliant ! Only watched the last set but that was brilliant, so that'll do

NB I'm with RJA, I've watched Dan live lose several matches where his backhand slice has just been eaten alive - it's not a weapon in itself, it's a great tool that allows him to get the most effect out of the rest of the game. As part of a mixed package, it's great. On its own, it leaves him vulnerable. But he's got a positive attitude at the moment, it's being used to construct points as he wants to. And Dan's movement and balance and timing - they're just sublime !

I really do like Mike, he has such a genuine love of the game and an enthusiasm for the players who play it. I just wish he, and several other commentators, would stop banging on about Dan's past indiscretions during every single match he plays. The subject has been done to death and it's well past time for people to move on and talk about where Dan is now without constant references to mistakes he made years ago.

L32:  (1) Andy Murray WR 1 defeated (31) Sam Querrey WR 32 by 4, 2 & 4

L32:  Dan Evans WR 51 defeated (27) Bernard Tomic (AUS) WR 27 by 7-4 7-6(2) 7-6(3)  jump.gif

The Oz Open just keeps getting better & better! ban-woohoo.gif  Cracking news to log on to at work! biggrin

*****

L16:  (1) Andy Murray WR 1 vs Mischa Zverev (GER) WR 50 (CH = 45 in June 2009 - he's the same age as Andy)

Head-to-head:  3-0.  They last met in the last 16 of the Munich ATP 250 (clay) in 2015, when Andy won by 2 & 2 & went on to take the title.

L16:  (12) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) WR 12 (CH = 5 in February 2012) vs Dan Evans WR 51

Unsurprisingly (up to now!), there is no head-to-head.  JWT's match against Jack Sock (23) lasted for three hours & 33 minutes, Evo's two hours & 48 minutes.

I know that a lot of us thought Dan has a good shot today but lets add a little bit of context to this victory. This is Tomic's home slam and he has a really good record here, he might play rubbish any other week of the year but he always brings his best for this one. Prior to this match he had never lost to a player ranked lower than himself and only twice lost to a player outside of the top 10, both of those defeats happening before he turned 18.

The list of players who have beat him here now reads as follows

2017 - Daniel Evans
2016 - Andy Murray
2015 - Tomas Berdych
2014 - Rafael Nadal
2013 - Roger Federer
2012 - Roger Federer
2011 - Rafael Nadal
2010 - Marin Cilic
2009 - Gilles Muller (Tomic was only 16 at the time and ranked 768)

I must say, I'm not impressed with Tomic, he must have the worst movement of anyone in the top 100, and his groundstrokes are soo flat. But he is worth 10 million dollars so what does he care.

Evo was in goat mode today. Mixed feelings about the Tsonga game, as part of me wants Tsonga to win so he can take care of stanimal.

Based on Dan's match with Stan at the USO and Tsonga not having beaten Stan since 2013 (albeit only 3 meetings since) I'd give Dan as good a shot at it. To be honest I genuinely think Stan at his very best is unplayable for almost anybody on the tour anyway.

Sound a bit delusional here but I'm sure you know what I mean.
