Perhaps giving context to Heather's loss, Jennifer Brady has just dumped Vesnina [14] out in straight sets. Well, I did say she looked dangerous, but I didn't think that dangerous!
Holy Mackerel. The domination, of a player of Wozniacki's class... !
My favourite stat from this match: in a routine win, against the literal marathon woman of the WTA, an opponent where the game is often based on running everything down, hitting one more ball back; even then, Johanna ran further in the match than did Caroline.
6-3 6-1 in awesome fashion.
Kate Makarova always plays well in Melbourne, 4R or better the last seven consecutive years, in which time she's beaten Serena, Karolina Pliskova, Halep, Kerber, and now Cibulkova here, all against the odds. Last years match between them was an epic. So, in Jo's 'draw of death' there are no easy routed, and we'll just have to see.
So good though!
Just saw the last couple of games or so, but certainly sounds as if overall it was a really high class performance by Jo.
Commentators trying not to put her in the running for the title, "no don't go there, don't jinx her", but ultimately couldn't help it. So they better not have jinxed her
And that's 820 ranking points this year so far so now beating last year's January counting total of 780.
